reflections - caroline (enchanted april)
Caroline reflects on the place that changed her.
Reflection
Caroline sighed softly as she glanced back at San Salvatore, beautifully tranquil and romantic. The hot Italian sun glinted off the windows and the scent of roses and lilies hung in the air. Above her birds flew high in the blue sky untainted by any clouds and it was the perfect depiction of paradise. The natural ease of the place had given her enough time to contemplate her life and she had begun to believe that she could change and get back onto the right path. To have inner beauty.
The other ladies hadn’t fawned over her and although it had surprised her at first, she was grateful for them to just accept her as nothing more than just another woman. Perhaps that’s what made her aware of George Briggs. He hadn’t infatuated himself with her, though he did make a comment much later on her beauty. He saw her, in the dark, for her inner beauty instead of her outer – something which no one had ever done before.
“Caroline!”
She twisted her head around to see Lottie waving her over and with a bright smile Caroline joined them. They set off down laughing and chatting gaily the men chivalrously holding most of the bags. From the corner of her eye Caroline saw the house disappear from her view beneath the stone arches and canopies and she knew that, all of them, would come back to this place one day to make more enchanting memories.
The End.
